This award is given out annually to beaches and leisure resorts which fulfill the comprehensive set of criteria set out by the European Foundation for Environmental Education. The criteria are based on the following standards: Environmental management, safety and amenities, and in the case of beaches, water quality.
With respect to leisure resorts, the award goes further, with the inclusion of management and environmental education and information. The Algarve has also been successful in this area, with its marinas achieving this mark of quality.
Blue or Gold flags make the 3000 hours of sun a year and the 200km of coastline with unspoilt landscapes and dream beaches even more appealing because they can be enjoyed in total safety. Enjoy them!
